Gloria Boseman
Gloria Boseman PhD, RN

Dr. Gloria Boseman is a committed, caring health professional. Her experience in delivering care to the underserved and under represented urban communities spans more than 45years. She has worked to serve these communities as a matter of mission. Dr. Boseman’s mission is to educate health care professionals to see urban clients where they are and for whom they are. As a component of that mission she seeks to empower the residents of these urban communities by enriching their mind, body, and spirit. The community views Dr. Boseman as an activist and visible advocate for inner city residents. She is an ever-present voice in the arenas of education and health on the local, state and national level with a message focused on accountability and excellence Her activism has lead to her receiving numerous awards and commendations including being named a Distinguished Alumni of Howard University College of Nursing, and a Woman of Influence by the Young Women’s Christian Association of Essex and West Hudson. Dr. Boseman has been recognized as an Outstanding Alumna of Rutgers the State University of New Jersey College of Nursing and Rutgers College of Nursing and the Rutgers EOF Program honored Dr. Boseman with the Dr. Bobbie Jean Purdue Urban Spirit Award. The National Council of Negro Women (Newark Chapter) rewarded her for excellence in contributions to the community in the Health and Education category and the list continues. She was an inaugural governor’s appointee to the Board of Directors of the newly established New Jersey Center for Collaborative Nursing .Acknowledged by a number of local Black Nurses chapters, most recently the New Jersey Integrated Black Nurses Association honored her as a “Living Legend”. At home (New Jersey City University has received the singular honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award ; this complimented her Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Essex County Inc, Community Service award for Advocacy for women, children and families and the NAACP Bayonne New Jersey Community Mentor and Educator award. Her professional colleagues acknowledged her contributions when she received honorary membership in Chi Eta Phi, Tau Chi Nursing Sorority and was recognized by the New Jersey League for Nursing as a TOP NURSE in New Jersey. And she was twice selected by students to receive National Student Leadership Teaching Award. Adorned as a “DIVA” for her significant contributions to the New Jersey Nursing community by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, Institute for Nursing she feels blessed beyond measure Dr. Boseman sits on many a boards, and is known for her ability to deliver complex material in a basic and informative manner. She has a special interest in accepting the challenge of addressing the difficult dialogs of race, age, culture, and gender. She is a BSN graduate of Howard University Washington, D.C. and a graduate of the University of Maryland (Baltimore) where she received her MS degree. Dr. Boseman completed postgraduate courses in Administration in Higher Education at Seton Hall University (NJ) and she received her PhD in Nursing Research from Rutgers’s the State University of New Jersey, where Dr. Boseman was the first African American graduate in the nursing PhD program. Dr. Boseman is Professor and past Chairperson of Nursing at New Jersey City University and a primary consultant for her private firm, the Hannah group. Committing her service and activism to care for the urban communities as a matter of mission, Dr. Boseman works to prepare others who arrive to her community to recognize that above all, informed, holistic, evidence based quality service is essential.
