Student Nurse Internship 

Job Title: MRBNA Student Nurse Intern (TEMP)

Organization: Middlesex Regional Black Nurses Association

Location: Middlesex County Region Hybrid (70% remote/30% in person)

Job Type: Part-Time Internship

Compensation: $15 - $20 per hour

Hours: 2- 4 hours per week (Up to 15 weeks/per semester)

Total Compensation: Up to $1,200 per semester

Reports to: MRBNA Chapter President

The Middlesex Regional Black Nurses Association is dedicated to advancing the welfare of Black nurses, developing mutual strengths, and providing leadership in the development of more effective health care for the Black community. We are committed to the nursing profession by supporting the educational and professional development of Black nurses and nursing students. We strive to reduce disparities within the Black community through mentorship, scholarship, community outreach, and health education initiatives.

Position Overview:

Becoming a great nurse extends far beyond the classroom. Our internship program is designed specifically for nursing students interested in community/population health nursing. Middlesex Regional Black Nurses Association is dedicated to providing outstanding experiences to nursing students in the NJ area. As an MRBNA Nurse Intern, you will work side by side with experienced nurses, work on various community needs projects, while using your assessment and communications skills. The internship provides nursing students with vital experience that will enhance the remainder of their nursing college education and assist in their transition into the nursing profession.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Student Nurse Intern to join our team for a part-time internship. This position is designed to provide nursing students with hands-on experience in the behind the scenes of community health outreach, education, and leadership development. The ideal candidate will support various initiatives of MRBNA to assist with improving health and promoting wellness in underserved communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing communications by sending emails, engaging with community partners, association members, making phone calls and providing essential support with a variety of administrative tasks. Administrative support, includes but not limited to maintaining records, assisting with reports, and scheduling meetings.
  • Assist in managing social media accounts by creating and scheduling content, engaging with flowers and helping grow the organization’s online presence.
  • Patient Care and Service: Performs and records patients vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations and pain rating. Documents clinical data as assigned, in a computer or manual system.
  • Participates in in-person learning experiences with the goal to educate the community on different aspects of population health nursing such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, etc.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing community health education programs and events.
  • Participate in health screenings, wellness fairs, and other outreach activities such as blood pressure screenings and lifestyle coaching. 
  • Support the development and distribution of health education materials.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community partners on outreach initiatives.
  • Contribute to research and data collection related to health disparities and community health needs.
  • Contribute to nursing tasks, support academic-related activities, contribute to research efforts, and manage data points in Excel spreadsheets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A nursing student, who has completed the first clinical year, inclusive of medical surgical nursing, within an accredited associate or baccalaureate nursing program and has a fundamental knowledge of the art and science of nursing, can function in this role. This experience assists the student nurse in expanding previously learned theory and skills through supervised patient care within a work setting.

  • Valid NJ Drivers License. Required
  • Graduating no earlier than December 2025 or May 2026
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor's level) in New Jersey. Required
  • Resides in New Jersey
  • Strong interest in community/population health nursing, health equity, and advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Provides sufficient documentation to demonstrate that they are eligible to work in the United States and maintains eligibility to work in the United States during their employment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual communication platforms (Zoom, Google Meet).
  • Experience with Canva and/or equivalent graphic design editing tools
  • Experience with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn
  • Strong writing and editing skills

Compensation: $15-$20 

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. Pay is determined by factors including experience, education, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and association need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
